...PENNSYLVANIA LIGHTNING SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK...This week is Lightning Safety Awareness Week in Pennsylvania.Today's topic: Lightning Safety Introduction.In the United States, there are between 20 and 25 million cloudto ground lightning flashes each year. While lightning can befascinating to watch, it also is extremely dangerous. Each oneof those 25 million flashes is a potential killer. Based on datafor the least 15 years, lightning has killed more than 400people in the United States, an average of 29 people per yearbased on documented cases. In addition, during this same period,lightning has injured an estimated 15000 people, some left withlife-long neurological damage.In addition to the deaths and injuries, lightning causesconsiderable damage across the nation. Each year, lightning isthe cause of about 25000 fires. Those fires are responsible for anadditional estimated 12 deaths per year. All totaled, lightningcauses nearly 1 billion dollars in damages each year.During the next several days, we will provide additionalinformation on lightning and lightning safety. We will cover whatyou can do to protect yourself from this dangerous killer. Mostimportantly, we want you to remember that there is no safe placeoutside during a thunderstorm.WHEN THUNDER ROARS, GO INDOORS!Lightning fact for today:The best protection from lightning is a substantial building. Ifyou can not get inside a substantial building, a hard toppedmetal vehicle will protect you from lightning. If the vehicle isstruck, the lightning will follow the outer metal shell of thevehicle to the ground. It is important to make sure that you arefully inside the vehicle with the windows rolled up. Police investigating a deadly shooting at a street party in Akron over the weekend think at least one person opened fire on the crowd from a vehicle, killing one person and wounding 24 others

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Police investigating a shooting at a street party in Akron over the weekend think at least one person opened fire on the crowd from a vehicle, killing one person and wounding 24 others.
Investigators found more than 35 shell casings littered across the block where the shooting happened early Sunday while more than 100 people were celebrating someone's birthday, police Chief Brian Harding said.
They also found two handguns at the scene, and believe some partygoers returned fire at the vehicle, the chief said. Plastic cups, shoes and other debris were scattered along the residential street bounded by empty lots and older homes.
No suspects had been identified as of Sunday night, and the mayor and police chief called on witnesses to come forward. Rewards totaling $22,500 for information leading to an arrest were offered by the Summit County Crime Stoppers, U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Akron officials said.
“The sheer number of victims is shocking and disconcerting. I want to be very clear: Anyone who was involved in last night’s shooting will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Mayor Shammas Malik said.
The 27-year-old man who died was identified as Lateris Cook, of Akron, according to the county medial examiner. The wounded range in age from 19 to 43, Harding said. At least two were in critical condition.
Officers tried to break up the party after getting noise complaints Saturday night, about two hours before shooting, Harding said. More than 200 people were at the party at that point, including some who were shooting off fireworks. No arrests were made.
Many returned to the scene, and police received several calls about shots being fired early Sunday, just after midnight, the chief said.
“We have to hold people accountable when they commit violence. That’s the only way to keep our communities safe,” the mayor said.
