After his work was finished, he stayed in the kitchen one day before he was sent to the hospital. From that day until late in Sept. 1919, all trace of him was lost. His heart-broken parents appealed to the War Department, but nothing was heard regarding the missing man. In despair, the father wrote to U. S. Senator Robert M. La Follette. After another two months of anxiety, a message was received from Washington, officially announcing Zinkgraf’s death.
