Saturday Telegraph News, March 19, 1977 5B Funerals Dewey Bateman, Peach Grower Dewey C. Bateman, 79, father of former Macon C. Bateman, died Friday in a local hospital after a brief illness. Graveside services will be held at 3 Sunday in Riverside Cemetery. Mr.
Bateman, a native of Peach County, was a prominent peach grower and president of Bateman Inc. While farming the same land that his family has owned since 1823, he was named -Outstanding Farmer by the Bibb County Soil Conservation in 1975. He was past president of the Production Credit Association and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee and a steward. Survivors, in addition to his son, include his Mrs. Leola Strowder FT.
VALLEY Mrs. Leola Robinson Strowder, 58, died Wednesday in an Augusta hospital. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Davis Hill Baptist Church in Houston County. Burial will be in Goodwill Cemetery.
Mrs. Strowder, a native of Tavoe, lived in Ft. Valley more than 30 years. She was a member of the Good Samaritan Lodge and Davis Hill Baptist Church, where she served as usher. Survivors include five sisters, Mrs.
Martha Moreland, Mrs. Sarah Smith, and Mrs. Mary Dwight, all of Ft. Valley, Mrs. Annie Lee Dixon of Atlanta, and Mrs.
